Smart Energy Profile 2.0 Functional Test Suite

Features

  • Validate conformance to the Smart Energy Profile Application Layer Specification
  • Test cases available over a secure web portal
  • Test cases will support ZigBee, Wi-Fi, and HomePlug physical layers when available

Benefits

  • Utilities: Confirm device reliability and compliance to SEP 2.0
  • Device Manufacturers: Speed time to market and increase customer confidence
  • Confirm that SEP 2.0 devices deliver accurate, reliable information

SEP 2.0 Functional Test SuiteThe SEP 2.0 Functional Test Suite (FTS) contains rigorous test cases for all mandatory and optional elements of the SEP 2.0 Application Layer Specification, as well as test cases for illegal behaviors. Metering Function Set test cases for meter servers and clients are now available on a subscription basis through a secure QualityLogic web portal. Test cases for additional function sets are planned to be added as the specification progresses through the standards process and as device manufacturers implement the protocol. Support for HomePlug, Wi-Fi and ZigBee physical layers is also planned.

During the early stages of Smart Energy Profile 2.0 adoption, rigorous conformance testing to the specification is a critical first step towards achieving certification and ultimately interoperability. As the market matures and large numbers of smart energy devices are released, QualityLogic plans to develop actual simulations of real-world devices as this may become the only practical way to test interoperability over a wide range of devices without the logistical nightmare of physically obtaining and setting up real devices.

The test suite is designed for use by:

  • utilities to confirm device reliability and compliance to grid standards;
  • device manufacturers to speed time to market and increase confidence in their offerings to business, residential and utility customers; and
  • all parties to confirm that smart energy devices deliver accurate and reliable information from the utility to customers, and vice versa.

SEP 2.0 Test System Roadmap

  • The SEP 2.0 Functional Test Suite is available now and will continue to be updated to support all function sets as they become specified.
  • The SEP 2.0 Device Simulation Interoperability Test Suite, consisting of application layer simulations of real-world SEP 2.0 devices (supporting ZigBee, Wi-Fi and HomePlug), will include use case scenarios to validate that the DUT is interoperable with simulated device behaviors.

Availability

The SEP 2.0 FTS is currently available on a subscription basis through QualityLogic’s secure web portal. Subscription periods ranging from 60 to 180 days are available. Contact us for more information.
