Comprehensive Emulation Tests

QualityLogic's Comprehensive Emulation Tests (CETs) are compatibility tests for validating printer emulations at the command level.

Each CET is a turnkey test suite for compatibility of printer emulations as compared to industry standards. QualityLogic offers CETs for all industry standard printers using PCL XL, PCL XL 2.0, PCL XL 3.0, PostScript Level 2, PostScript 3, PCL5e, PCL5c, HP RTL, HPGL/2, HP PJL, and others.

CETs offer a cost-effective method of thoroughly testing command-level emulation compatibility during development and prior to release of firmware revisions. The QualityLogic CETs, combined with QualityLogic’s Application Test Suites (ATSs), provide a total solution for all your testing requirements.

The CETs are created through careful analysis of all published documentation on the standard printer or language. Using PC3, a programming environment specially designed for printer testing, a test program is written for each command in the emulation. During the execution of each test, the command is first run through a series of rigorous standard tests. Next, the command under test is combined with other commands typical to its use.

Finally, the command is tested for both exceptional circumstances and complete combined control code compatibility. This final stage of testing, considered “cruel and unusual” punishment, uncovers most printer emulation problems. The following outlines the CET test methodology:

Standard Tests

Each command in an emulation command set is run through a battery of standard tests that include the following:

• Text Placement Test- Position of the command within text.
• Code Placement Test - Position of the command within other commands.
• Multi-Line Page Test - The command’s operation across page boundaries.
• Wrap Test - The command’s operation across edge boundaries.
• Repeat Test - Test full range of any variable parameters.
• Default Test - Test proper default value settings.
• Illegal Value Test - Test illegal pass parameters.
• Command Syntax Test - Test various command syntax combinations.

After the Standard tests, each command is run through a series of Special tests. These tests subject the commands to unusual and exceptional circumstances. Other commands typical to its use are tested in combination with the command under test.

Combined Command Testing

Finally, the command under test is subjected to QualityLogic’s Interference Test Procedure which exercises the command in combination with more than 90% of the other commands in the emulation.
