Portable Document Format (PDF) is the dominant cross-platform format used in personal and business environments. PDF is used to not only convey information through use of viewing applications, such as Acrobat Reader and others, but also as a print-ready format to precisely describe the output that is destined for various of output devices. PDF supports digital certificates, encryption and security rights, as well as features such as annotation, 3D, audio/video formats, forms, security, transparency and others.

You don’t sacrifice thoroughness for speed. With over 600 test cases, the PDF 1.7 FTS primarily covers the imaging components of the PDF language that directly influence the individual pixel rendering of each page on a printer.

The PDF 1.7 FTS is ideal for quick, thorough regression testing or for testing an emulation you license. PDF Characteristics Tested

• Syntax-based tests using PDF objects, file structure, document structure and content streams
• Graphics-based tests using PDF operators in graphic state, path construction, path-painting, other painting operators, text, and marked-content groups
  In addition, these graphics-related PDF tests will cover:
  
  • Coordinate systems using coordinate space and transformations
  • Graphic states using graphic state stack and related operators
  • Path construction, painting and clipping operators
  • Color spaces including device color, CIE based (including ICC), pattern, indexed, separation, and DeviceN color spaces
  • Overprint operators
  • Patterns, including tiling and shading patterns
  • XObject-based tests using images, form, and PostScript
  • Images, including all compression types, alternate, masked and inline images
  • Text-related operators, including all supported font types, associated text state parameters, and embedded fonts
  • Rendering-related tests including transfer and halftone functions
  • Transparency-related tests including blend color spaces, blend modes, and alpha values

• Limited interactive features, including annotations, forms and digital signatures
• Limited multimedia features, including sounds, movies and 3D artwork
• Limited PostScript (Type 4) function tests
• Limited Linearized PDF tests

Even though the PDF 1.7 FTS is designed to cover typical print usage scenarios quickly, we’ve also included limited testing for some non-print areas, such as PDF operators that cover interactive or multimedia, and for mature sub-technologies (e.g., testing PostScript operators for Type 4 functions). These areas include:

• Annotations, including annotation dictionaries, annotation flags, border styles, appearance streams and annotation types
• Multimedia features, including sounds, movies and 3D artwork other than sample sound, movie and 3D artwork used in the PDF 1.7 FTS
• PostScript (Type 4) function tests described in the Type 4 operator list
• Limited Linearized PDF tests other than samples of Linearized PDF files
• Interactive forms other than samples of interactive form PDF files
• Digital Signatures other than samples of digital signatures
• Document Interchange features, including metadata, File identifiers, page-piece dictionaries, marked content, tagged PDF, and web captures. Samples of Prepress-related features are provided.
