QUALITYLOGIC RELEASES PAGESENSE 5.3 PRINTER AND MULTI-FUNCTION PERIPHERAL
PERFORMANCE TEST TOOL
PROVIDES TESTING OF PRINTING, COPYING, FAXING, SCANNING FUNCTIONS
PHILADELPHIA, PA - MAY 15, 2006 - QualityLogic
(www.qualitylogic.com) announced the availability
of PageSense 5.3, the latest version of its printer-performance test tool, today
at the AIIM/OnDemand Expo. Leading printer manufacturers and industry publications
use PageSense to obtain standardized test results that can be used to accurately
compare the throughput-performance of one printer against another. PageSense
5.3 adds this same capability for the copy, scan and fax features of multi-function
peripherals (MFPs). PageSense 5.0 customers will be offered upgrade pricing
for PageSense 5.3, and special discounts will apply if the upgrade is purchased
before June 30, 2006.
"Prior to PageSense, test engineers had to actually set up documents in
various applications, and then time them with a stopwatch as they printed,"
said Dave Jollota, QualityLogic COO. "Not only were these tests subject
to human error, the test pages and methodologies were not standardized. So it
was virtually impossible to accurately compare the performance of one printer
to another. PageSense literally revolutionized printer-performance testing and
measurement. Now it's doing the same thing for multi-function peripherals"
PageSense 5.3 uses application test files from companies such as Adobe, Corel, Microsoft and others to perform automated throughout performance testing, and offers six performance test modes:
"Print from PageSense" provides defined application test files and an automated process to print and record time measurements using a sensor unit. It accurately measures how fast an application returns and how long it takes to print a page to the printer. It measures the interval from the time the "OK" button is clicked in the print dialog to the moment the last page is released to the printer's output bin.
"Print From Anywhere" remotely monitors print performance from platforms not currently supported by PageSense, such as standalone photo printers, Mac OS or Linux. A remote triggering device is used to start the PageSense timer simultaneously with the remote start of print. PageSense captures and calculates the timing measurement the moment the last page is released to the output bin of the printer.
"Copy" monitors copy performance from an MFP or any traditional copier. Copy performance uses the remote trigger device to automatically start the PageSense timer when the user manually pushes the "Copy" button on the MFP. Output is detected via the sensor, and per-page performance is captured and reported.
"Fax" measures the time it takes to print a fax at the MFP. The fax is sent to the MFP, and the output is detected via the sensor provided with PageSense. Fax performance uses the remote trigger device to automatically start the PageSense timer.
"Scan" measures the time required to scan a document and send it to a folder on the PageSense test PC. Both time to completion and size of the file are captured. Scan performance uses the remote trigger device to automatically start the PageSense timer when the user manually starts the scan on the scanner sending the file to the MFP. The sensor is not utilized.
"Binary Print Utility" (BPU) is an independent application that prints captured files, eliminating the need to launch and run the supported applications. PageSense can create and send captured files directly to the printer, monitoring the amount of data sent in relation to elapsed time, and measuring the elapsed time to print the output.
