Introducing QualityLogic’s CSIP Australia Test Tools

With the CSIP Australia certification quickly approaching in 2024, QualityLogic has worked with the Australian community to develop a new CSIP Australia Functional Test Suite that supports the testing of CSIP Australia-specific tests.

Since 2010, QualityLogic has been directly involved with the development of important DER standards, including IEEE 2030.5, 1547, CSIP, and UL 1741SB. Our test products and technical workshops have helped many OEMs, utilities, alliances, test labs, and research organizations quickly gain a technical understanding of these standards. Leveraging the in-depth experience QualityLogic has gained through supporting the DER industry with official IEEE 2030.5/CSIP and IEEE 1547/UL 1741 SB certification, customers can rely on this trusted test platform.

What is the difference from CA Rule 21-based CSIP?

The CSIP Australia standard supports using IEEE 2030.5 protocol to actively manage DER assets for the provision of dynamic real power import/export limits at the site level – commonly known as Dynamic Operating Envelopes. Compared to the California Rule 21, which focuses on supporting autonomous and advanced DER functions from IEEE 1547-2018 standard, the Australian standard focuses on supporting these new site-level management functions referenced by its own AS/NZS 4777 standards.

Why do I need this?

The new CSIP Australia Functional Test Suite provides a standardized test product that provides objective and consistent verification of DER systems that will need to meet the official CSIP Australia certification requirements starting in mid-2024.

Expedite CSIP-Aus Certification with QualityLogic’s Functional Test Suite

Our CSIP-Aus tool offers a streamlined approach to expedite your efforts in testing and certifying your DER systems.

  • All-in-one testing: Convenient and standardized testing of all CSIP Australia test cases.
  • Complete coverage: Test coverage for CSIP Australia-based Client and Server system testing.
  • Easy configuration: Simple User Interface for users to dynamically configure the DER system being tested.
  • Clear results: Pass/Fail Test Reporting with full transaction log including data collection from Data Acquisition Systems such as Power Analyzer.
  • Standards met: Automatic Verification of CSIP-Aus and IEEE 2030.5 mandatory requirement during test execution.
  • Proven results: Provides Physical Response monitoring leveraging the trusted capabilities of our industry-leading IEEE 1547 Test Tool.

Key CSIP Australia FTS Features

QualityLogic IEEE 2030.5 Functional Test Suites are a quick, convenient way to test IEEE 2030.5 client or server conformance to the IEEE 2030.5 and CSIP Australia specifications. QualityLogic’s Test Suites cover all the tests defined in the CSIP Australia Test Procedures, including:

  • All Tests required for all DER systems
  • ConnectionPoint Tests
  • Generation Tests
  • Load/Import Tests
  • DemandResponse – AS 4755 Demand Response functions
  • Support for all CSIP-Aus required controls and exchanges
  • Physical Response Verification (optional)

AdHoc Test Tool Features

IEEE 2030.5 Ad Hoc Testers are actual conformant implementations of the IEEE 2030.5 Client and Server. They provide an additional testing pathway to the Functional Test Suites that give full control over the type of events that can be created to target specific client devices such as CSIP Australia, CSIP California and SAE J3072 DER clients and servers.

  • Configurable DER Control and DefaultDERControl with support for all opMod commands supported in IEEE 2030.5-2018 and CSIP-Aus specifications including opModEnergize, opModExpLimW, opModGenLimW, opmodMaxLimW, opModImpLimW, opModLoadLimW, setGradW and setSoftGradW functions
  • Support for polling and subscription exchange between clients and servers
  • ConnectionPoint and doeModesSupported support
  • In-Band or out-of-band DER registration support
  • DER or Aggregator client support

Beyond Certification

Robustness and scalability of commercial systems are critical to successful deployment once certification is achieved. Since 1986, QualityLogic has been delivering comprehensive test services in many industry sectors to help manufacturers produce robust systems that can deal with challenging real-world scenarios.
