The Client

The client is a community monetization platform: software that lets creators run paid memberships, online courses, and communities in one product. The business processes recurring payments and manages subscriber data at scale. A billing bug or a broken course module hits a creator’s revenue or a subscriber’s access directly.

QualityLogic partnered with this client on a multi-year effort to rebuild its quality assurance program from the ground up, moving from an informal, ad hoc approach to testing into a state-of-the-market CI/CD QA platform.

The Problem

When QualityLogic first engaged, the client had no internal QA resources. Testing was handled ad hoc by developers, project managers, and whoever else was available. That produced inconsistent quality outcomes, which is what pushed the client to look for outside help.

The client also didn’t have the internal talent or infrastructure to build a QA function that met the bar their business now required, especially given what was riding on every release.

The Approach

Build the Foundation First

QualityLogic started by assigning a team of manual QA professionals to lay the groundwork. That team focused on building deep product knowledge, establishing a QA process that fit the client’s existing development lifecycle, documenting test cases, and putting consistent QA checks in place across every application.

From the start, QualityLogic worked with the client to shift testing left. Our team joined requirements analysis alongside business analysts and developers, so test cases got built as features were developed instead of after the fact. That produced a just-in-time approach to testing rather than a bottleneck at the end of the cycle.

A core part of this early work was writing acceptance criteria and test cases that were clear and atomic: specific enough that they didn’t depend on someone already knowing the application inside and out.

Scaling Up: Automation, Then Agile, Then CI/CD

Once the manual QA foundation was in place, QualityLogic began incorporating automated testing to shorten the test and delivery cycle and give developers earlier confidence in their code. This meant building a custom test automation framework and automating the client’s existing manual test cases, with QA engineers embedded directly alongside developers so automation was ready the moment code was.

QualityLogic recommended and implemented the test tools and frameworks that supported this shift. Over time, the QA team moved from being primarily manual testers to primarily test automation engineers as coverage grew and automation became central to the platform.

QualityLogic also supported the client’s move to an agile, pod-based delivery model, organizing product owners, developers, and QA into squads aligned to specific product lines. That let teams specialize within their application context while QualityLogic worked to keep QA tools, processes, and standards consistent across every squad, so quality outcomes didn’t vary from team to team.

As test automation matured and the agile process took hold, QualityLogic helped the client transition to a full CI/CD delivery model. QualityLogic’s engineers built a Jenkins CI/CD pipeline and integrated roughly 3,000 end-to-end tests into it, including a third-party test code repository for automated runs and reporting, test parallelization, and defect logging on failure.

The Outcome

QualityLogic took the client’s QA operation from nonexistent, where testing was performed ad hoc by developers and product owners, to a state-of-the-market CI/CD delivery model with QA fully integrated into a product-platform, agile support structure.

That transformation helped the client hit key release milestones, scale its user base, and consistently ship higher-quality features to the creators and communities relying on the platform. The client’s ability to scale reliably and deliver consistent quality to its users was part of what supported successful Series A and Series B funding rounds.
