Functional
Test Suites (FTS) are a cost effective and efficient way to assure your
printer's compatibility.
If you license your printer emulation but want to perform in-house testing, or have a mature emulation that requires testing for firmware upgrades, QualityLogic’s Functional Test Suites (FTSs) will provide you with a cost-effective solution. The FTS helps you rapidly assess emulation compatibility of page description languages and printing protocols.
QualityLogic’s FTS products for PCL 5, PCL 6, PostScript 3, PDF, XPS, and Windows GDI provide a low cost testing solution that, when combined with other testing tools, provides you with the highest level of assurance that your products are compatible.
Test Design
FTSs test every command in the language or protocol in as few pages as possible to minimize test time and optimize trouble shooting. Wherever possible, test results are reported as simple pass or fail, eliminating the need for a qualified language expert to sift through the results and separate device dependencies from actual bugs. Your language expert can come in at the end of the comparison process to trouble shoot real bugs.
The FTS can be used as a stand-alone testing strategy, or in combination with our CET and ATS products for increased confidence. The primary objective of a CET is to test every facet of a language, with little regard to execution time or number of pages. CETs are development tools and are most effective when used during the development of the language and in alpha testing. On the other hand, FTSs are designed for the end of the process, and serve as a final check for a language that has already undergone rigorous testing either in house or at your supplier’s facility.
QualityLogic's FTS products for page description languages meet the following criteria:
- Must run unattended in 24 hours or less
- Multiple test cases per page to minimize paper consumption
- No redundant testing
- Device dependencies are eliminated wherever possible
- No complex functional tests or illegal parameter tests
- All test cases are clearly identified to speed up trouble shooting
- Range tests are limited to a functional range within the test case area
- Tests are 100% functional when compiled to binary files (no backchannel communication)
- Test code is structured as in-line code wherever possible to ease bug isolation
- Code for each specific test can be rapidly identified
- Allows the user to exclude a range of test cases. For consistency during comparison, the report format of test cases is not impacted by this feature.
- Tests that impact page formatting are minimized to reduce paper consumption
