XPS Comprehensive Evaluation Test
or
complete, in-depth testing, the XPS Comprehensive Evaluation Test (CET)
helps you ensure that your implementation can handle the full breadth
and diversity of commands and features allowed by the XPS specification
when printing an XPS Package.
The XPS CET is a very rigorous test of non-device specific legal behavior of the device, systematically testing interactions between XPS elements and the extreme limits of behavior. This test is critical since rigorous conformance testing is the only way to help ensure application interoperability in the absence of a large number of Windows Vista applications on the market.
The XPS CET provides:
- Rigorous use of all supported XPS elements, including complex usage scenarios
- Use of all supported attributes through the full practical range of supported values
- A wide range of diverse testing for non-markup related elements such
as print tickets, package structure, and syntax
These tests are designed to verify that each XPS element behaves in the manner described by the Microsoft specifications, and as implemented in the XPS Viewer and the designated reference printer.
Test Organization
These tests generally consist of three parts: Standard Tests, Influence Tests, and Special Tests.
Standard Tests consist of test sequences with common objectives for a wide variety of XPS elements. These tests deal with usage of various attribute combinations and data ranges.
Standard Tests contain four distinct types of test:
- Combination Tests demonstrate the functionality of attributes or their equivalent property elements that affect the marks made on the page by combining them.
- Range Tests validate the full legal range of supported values based on a review of the allowable syntax in the schema for each attribute or its equivalent property element.
- Defaults Tests confirm that the specified default values are used for optional attributes.
- Child Element Tests demonstrate the use of each 1st descendent child element (not including property elements, which are exercised as part of the combination Tests).
Influence Tests also consist of test sequences that will be common for a wide variety of XPS elements. These tests deal with the influence of the common elements, such as opacity and transform matrices, both on each other and on other XPS elements.
Influence tests cover the following elements:
- Fill
- Stroke
- Stroke Effect
- Clipping
- Opacity
- Opacity Mask
- Transforms
Special Tests are test sequences that deal
with specific test scenarios that are outside the scope of the Standard
or Influence Tests. In general, a definitive statement in the XPS specifications
qualifies a feature for inclusion as a Special Test.

Deliverables
The following items will be delivered to the customer as part of the XPS Comprehensive Evaluation Test Suite:
- Test cases for each command documented in the product test specification. Over 800 test case specifications - each of which is 2 to 3 times more complex than FTS test cases. [Note: PrintTicket commands are TBD]
- Hard copy output masters - dependent on availability of printers on the market
- Product User's Guide & Test Specification
