XPS Functional Test Suite SP1
For document imaging hardware or software vendors developing XPS implementations or licensing them from a third party, the QualityLogic XPS FTS SP1 is a quick, economical integration test tool.
Microsoft has released its latest edition of Windows Vista, SP1 (Service Pack 1). The SP1 version is expected to gain wider adoption than the original release, so it’s more important that ever to measure your devices against this standard.
XPS FTS SP1 files exercise the main features of the XPS language against your XPS printer, RIP, file format converter, or other XPS compatible implementation. FTS tests are broad rather than deep, exercising the breadth of the XPS elements and associated attributes using fairly nominal characteristics.
The XPS FTS SP1 is specifically designed for:
- Rapid unattended test execution times for original and regression tests
- Absolute minimum number of pages to compare
- Quick bug isolation
The intent of the FTS is to test the breadth of the XPS markup with typical usage scenarios. This suite helps you rapidly assess baseline conformance to XPS requirements.
The XPS FTS SP1 contains .xps files that QualityLogic has developed to exercise main features of the XPS language. These tests verify that each |XPS element behaves in the manner described by the Microsoft specifications, and as implemented in the XPS Viewer.
Each FTS container file incorporates the following design principles:
- Containers have single or multiple pages
- Each page may have single or multiple test cases
- Test cases are bounded in a canvas with a clipping path
- Each test case is bracketed with start and end test banners
- Test cases have embedded comments from our developers
- XAML markup is indented, making it simple to follow the code
The XPS FTS SP1 is split into two distinct sets of tests:
- XPS Markup Tests, which focus on exercising the XAML markup contained within the bounds of a <FixedPage> element
- XPS Package Tests, which focus on the structure of XPS Package and the associated markup.
The container files are organized in the DVD in two convenient versions:
- Multiple FTS test cases contained in a single .xps file - This version is used to produce the reference hardcopy output. This format provides a method for quick comparison using the minimum number of pages.
- Single FTS test case per .xps file - This version makes the debugging process much easier. This format provides a quick method for debugging any problems your XPS implementation encounters using our XPS FTS SP1.

- XPS FTS v1.1 Test Specification
- XPS FTS v1.1 User’s Guide – The overall user’s guide to the QualityLogic XPS FTS delivery and its contents.
- XPS FTS .xps files – This collection of .xps files is the central component of the XPS FTS product. These files were developed by QualityLogic to exercise the main features of the XPS language. USLetter and A4 sized container files are included for both “grouped” and “individual” sets.
- XPS FTS Reference Hardcopy output – This set of reference hardcopy output is produced by QualityLogic using the XPSViewer Windows Vista SP1 version. Optional hardcopy references from other native XPS printers are also available.
- TestJob Sender - QualityLogic’s utility for submitting print-ready files to an attached printer is included in the DVD.
System Requirements
In order to use the XPS FTS SP1 .xps files that are included in this delivery, the following hardware and software configurations are recommended. Note that if you have access to a native XPS printer or RIP that can process XPS files directly without an XPS Viewer, the configurations below are not required.
- Hardware: QualityLogic used 3.2 GHz Intel Pentium 4 systems with 1GB RAM, although any PC that is capable of running Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 with WinFX is also adequate.
- Operating System: Microsoft Windows XP Pro SP2 or Windows Vista
